Smokeless Range Not Detecting or Tracking Laser Shots
If your laser shots are not being detected or tracked properly in the Smokeless Range, the issue is usually caused by one of a few common problems. Work through the following checks in order.
Calibrate the laser tracking camera
This is the first and most important thing to check.
The laser tracking camera must be calibrated each time you launch the Smokeless Range after it has been closed.
Complete the camera calibration before beginning your training session.
Check the laser battery voltage
A weak battery can cause the laser to fire but produce a signal that is too weak for the Smokeless Range to detect reliably.
For SureStrike lasers, the battery should remain above approximately 4.0 volts.
A new battery will typically measure around 4.5 volts.
The easiest way to check the battery is with a voltmeter.
If the battery measures below 4.0 volts, replace it.
Verify the battery is installed correctly
Remove the battery cap and hold the laser with the laser point facing toward the ground.
Insert the battery so that:
The smooth side faces downward toward the spring inside the laser.
The side with writing or markings faces upward toward the battery cap.
Reinstall the battery cap securely.
Check the room lighting
The Smokeless Range camera can be affected by strong visible or infrared light.
Make sure there is no sunlight shining into the room or onto the projection screen.
Avoid harsh or direct lighting on the projection screen.
Make sure bright lamps are not directly visible within the camera's field of view.
Security cameras and other devices may emit infrared (IR) light that is invisible to your eyes but visible to the tracking camera. Make sure these IR sources are not pointed toward the screen or directly visible to the camera.
Make sure you are using a compatible laser
For dry-fire training, the Smokeless Range supports:
Red lasers
Infrared (IR) lasers
For recoil-enabled training, you must use:
Infrared (IR) lasers only
Green lasers are not compatible with the Smokeless Range.
